Backstory:

A group of four friends had spent much of their early twenties training at the PDWMA in Las Vegas, an institute that specialized in bringing up young reapers. The four did just about everything together and thought that they always would. Although half the group’s time was cut short, due to a tragic attack from a witch. Miranda and Damian had already been in a relationship at this point and after the two each lost their respective partners they made the decision to abandon their prior life and live far from the world they once knew. The two married and moved just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska where Damian’s parents owned land before retiring out in Colorado. Damian had taken up an old hobby, now career, he used to help his father with when he was younger as a pilot. Miranda started working at a book store out in the city of Fairbanks. Things were peaceful for them for many years. From time to time they would think about the life they once lead but knew they did not have the heart to ever go back to it.

It was some fifteen years later that the Safford family had left their prior life at PDWMA that they had a daughter. When Alysa was born Damian and Miranda made the decision to keep her far away from the world of Meisters and Weapons, to raise her in a “normal” family. The two never wanted to expose her to the life they had lead many years prior.

Fairly early in Alysa’s childhood she was found to be a rather curious and adventures child. Getting into everything and asking about anything. She was also a very active child, preferring to play outside rather than play with toys or read books.

When it came for Alysa to start school, her parents opted for homeschooling, to being rather protective. Although she never had much interaction with kids her age, she was not unsocial in the slightest. She often enjoyed meeting and talking with any of the customers who came by to hire her father as a pilot. Finding it fun to meet new people and hear their stories.

At the age of seven her father decided to introduce Alysa to the skies, he took her out for her first flight and it was something that fascinated her. Looking out down at the world below she chattered away happily asking all kinds of questions. Even though they weren’t birds or flying types they were soaring above the world. As she grew older and continued to take occasional flights with her dad when she could, her interest in planes steadily grew.

On her eleventh birthday Alysa’s parents got her a puppy, thinking that the companionship would be good for her and a chance to make a friend. Alysa fell in love with the young Growlithe pup and bonded quickly with him, naming him Aero. The two were inseparable after meeting and did just about everything together.

A few months later Alysa started “seeing” strange things, she wasn’t sure what to think at first and eventually approached her parents about it a few months after it started. Exchanging worried glances they denied it knowing that she was starting to see souls and possibly awaken to her Meister potential. Telling her it was just her imagination desperately trying to get her to believe they were a normal family. Alysa wanted to press the topic further but the expression her parents wore held her back. Was there something wrong with her she had to wonder? It took some time but Alysa learned to ignore what she was told was her imagination. Wanting to believe it was all in her head because she did not want to see that look on her parent’s faces again. Eventually she denied it long enough that she believed it was so and she stopped seeing thing.

Alysa’s life was fairly normal from that point on. She would explore with Aero, take flights and learn more about piloting from her father, and spent time just living life. The closer she got to turning sixteen the more time she started to spend studying and learning as much as she could about piloting, because soon she would finally be able to apply for a student pilots license and be able to learn to actually fly an aircraft. Something she had been looking forward to for a long time.

A few weeks after she turned sixteen she received her student pilot’s license, and spent the next few months training with her father as her flight instructor. The first time she was allowed to pilot the plane was memorable but nothing could compare to her first solo flight.

Filled with nervous excitement, Alysa gave a slight nod to her parents watching her outside the plane. She had just completed a few landings with her father in the craft, instructing her one last time. After touching down and dropping him off at the landing, the time had come for her first solo flight. Alysa was confident in her abilities as a pilot, which she had been learning from a young age. Now it was time to put it all to the test. After checking the controls, she took a deep breath and focused proceeding to take off.

The first thing she notice as the plane climbed into the sky was that, it was climbing faster than when she rode with her father, now that there was only her in the plane. It was at this point she realized she was on her own; she had to rely on everything she had learned. This flight was something she had been looking forward to since the moment she received her student’s license, earlier that year.

Alysa’s first solo flight is an experience she will never forget. It was a wonderful and thrilling experience, and for her a feeling of absolute freedom. A feeling that she could do anything she put her mind to. Completing a few landings and take offs, everything ran smoothly that day and by the final landing she felt a great sense of accomplishment. Landing the plane and shutting it down she stepped off onto the ground, fur slightly damp with sweat from the initial pressure. Her father and mother greeted her, both smiling at her with pride.

After her father cut the tail of her shirt off, an old tradition after the first solo flight he insisted on, the Safford family spent the evening in celebration. Around a year later, after more flight training Alysa went on to get her privet pilots license a few months after turning eighteen. For her life was great and continuing on normal, little did she realize that it would soon take a turn she had never expected later that year.

Mid August, the weather was just starting to cool down from the summer temperatures, still fairly comfortable for that time of year. It was fairly normal morning, when her parents told her they were headed into the city for the day to do some shopping and would be back later that evening. Watching them leave, she called to her companion Aero “We should go for a walk Aero.” Even with her parents out of the house, Alysa was not the type to sit around inside. Pulling on her coat she decided to go out for a bit due to the pleasant weather and the need to get out of the house, she felt it was a good time for a hike. Aero came bounding over excitedly, in truth it was a rather amusing site to see such a large dog still acting like a puppy. With a smile the two headed out for the day.

For the next couple of hours, Alysa and Aero wandered the property her family owned, spending time here and there just hanging out taking their time enjoying the weather. It was a peaceful morning. Around lunch time the two started to make their way back to the house for a meal and some rest. Not long after the house was in sight, Aero suddenly tensed up giving off a warning growl. Alysa seen the sudden change in his demeanor, the two stopping in their tracks, she noticed a lone female standing at the door looking around.

Normal enough Alysa thought, they would often get visitors looking to hire her father’s services as a pilot, but Aero’s demeanor kept Alysa on guard as they came closer to the house. With a guarded smile Alysa called out “How may I help you?”

Turning to face them, the Ursaring women studied the pair before smiling. “Oh yes, I was just out...exploring the area and was looking for a place to rest for a bit before heading back out.”

Tilting her head to the side Alysa did not question her further, taking the words at face value. Still she was a bit wary of letting a stranger into the house when her parents were not home. She was trusting but not stupid. “I can’t really let you in with my folks out, but I can get you something to eat and drink if you like?”

The women responded to her question “My, my dear that would be marvelous.” As Alysa moved to the door the women watched before speaking again “Although, I think I’d rather eat right time moment, after all you smell quite appetizing yourself.” Before Alysa could process the odd statement the Ursaring moved to attack although before the women could touch Alysa, Aero intersected and sunk his teeth into the Ursaring’s arm. Screaming out in pain “You stupid mutt!” she brought her claws across his face with the move Slash in attempt to knock him off. Aero’s grip slacked just enough for the women to free her arm. Glaring at the Aero “looks like I’ll have to deal with you first” she said swinging her good arm at the disoriented Aero using the move Hammer Arm to hit him hard enough to send him skidding a few feet.

Alysa snapped out of her dazed state, still trying to figure out what was happening. When she seen the women hit Aero a second time Alysa cried out “Leave him alone!” Turning her attention to Alysa the Ursaring smiled “Aw, you sad I did not play with you first?” making a move to attack Alysa, Alysa managed to dodge with the use of the move Detect.

It was around this point when her father and mother had come rushing home. Her father using the move Teleport to situated himself between the two. Thankful that after he had heard rumors of an attacker fleeing the city area, they had headed home “Don’t know if it was good luck or bad luck that brought you to this house but you will regret messing with my family.” At this point Alysa’s parents had no other choice but to reveille the secret they had been keeping till now. Taking his wife’s hand, she transformed into a set of duel daggers. Alysa stared in shock at what had just transpired, she had heard tales about the phenomena but never could have imagined it was something her family could do. At this point the Ursaring was not expecting anyone else to show up and was starting to feel this was more trouble than it was worth.

Moving forward to attack with the twin daggers he held, Alysa’s father and the women exchanged blows for a few moments. The Ursaring defending herself with her claws was slowly pushed back. It had been a while since the two fought in this form but it was a familiar feeling from a time long past. Taking a bit of time to finally defeat the Ursaring, once they did they put a call in to the authorities in the city.

A few hours after the attack, Alysa found herself sitting on the couch next to her father. Her mother had left to take Aero to get treated; Alysa would have gone but was still out of it and was in no condition to leave the house. Still a bit disoriented she stared down into the mug she held trying to process what had happened. All she knew was she was attacked, her mother could turn into daggers, and that she truly had no idea what was going on.

Finding her voice she asked her father, who was silently watching her. “What happened…” With a sigh he responded “Not now, let’s wait for your mother and Aero to get back. Besides you need to rest.” Reluctantly she accepted the answer for now. “Alright.” Not wanting to be alone she curled up on the couch, exhausted from the day she quickly fell asleep. Early the next morning Alysa’s mother returned home with Aero and news that he would survive, but would no longer have his full sight due to the attack to his face. Even though she was thankful he would survive Alysa still harbored quite a bit of guilt, feeling it was her fault.

The next few days passed with a rather strained atmosphere in the Safford household. Alysa’s parents knew it was unavoidable to keep Alysa in the dark any longer, thinking that maybe if they had told her sooner this event could have been avoided to some degree. Finally Alysa asked a second time, just what had occurred and with hesitation her parents slowly stated to explain their history as a Meister and Weapon at the DWMA and their decision to keep Alysa as far from that world as best they could, and how it all related to her. Alysa sat in silence for the most part not sure how to take all this new found information. When they finished talking, Alysa muttered thanks before heading back to her room where Aero was resting.

Sitting down next to him, Alysa stared at the ceiling. In truth she could not really blame her parents for keeping her in the dark for so long. She knew that they had their reasons but still. Looking over to Aero her thoughts wandered as she stoked his fur. Later that evening she went out to the kitchen to find her folks, they looked up her watching her reaction. Speaking up Alysa said “I want to learn more…I want to be able to be able to keep what I love safe.” Exchanging glances her parents gave a hesitant nod, still reluctant to introduce her to the world they ran from. Knowing that with her personality, even if they disagreed she would go off on her own, this worried them. “Alright, but you at least need to get used to fighting a bit first.” Her father spoke wanting to at least prepare her somewhat for the road in life she was about to take.

Over the course of the next few years Alysa started to train with both her parents when they had the time. From her father she started to pick up hand to hand combat and from her mother she started to learn about the bond Meister’s and Weapons shared. Between training Alysa would often times spend it with Aero, helping him adjust to having limited sight. Although her life had taken an unexpected turn Alysa never lost her love for going out into nature or taking her father’s plane out for flights, both of which were her escape when she needed it. After a few years of working with her parents she decided it was time to head out to Vegas and the PDWMA. There was only so much she could learn here and she was determined to continue on her new path in life. Even if she was headed to Vegas with a goal in mind she could not help but wonder what was in store for her. Her curiosity and excitement at the prospect of something new was something she was looking forward to.
